Low Back Pain: Proprioceptive neuromusclular facilitation exercises reduce pain intensity .
Effects of Two 4-Week Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation Programs on Muscle Endurance, Flexibility, and Functional Performance in Women With Chronic Low Back Pain
Phys Ther. 2006 Jul;86(7):1001-12.86 women with chronic lower back pain were randomized into either a rhythmic stabilization training (RST) group, a combination of isotonic exercises (COI) group, or a control group. The main outcomes measured throughout the course of the study were lumbar mobility (flexicurve technique), dynamic and static muscle endurance (trunk flexion and trunk extension endurance), functional impairment (Oswestry Low Back Pain Disability Questionnaire), and low back pain intensity (Borg Back Pain Intensity Scale). After the 12 week study period, it was found that the rhythmic stabilization training group and isotonic exercise group displayed significant improvements in lumbar mobility, static and dynamic muscle endurance, and functional impairment scores.
