Autograft Versus Allograft Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction: A Prospective, Randomized Clinical Study With a Minimum 10-Year Follow-up
Am J Sports Med. 2015 Oct;43(10):2501-999 patients (100 knees) scheduled for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction were randomized to undergo the procedure with either a tibialis posterior tendon allograft, or semitendinosus and gracilis autograft. The purpose of this study was to compare the long-term (minimum 10 year follow-up) results regarding graft failure rate, subjective knee function, and subjective knee stability. Results demonstrated a significantly higher graft failure rate in the allograft group compared to the autograft group, with similar subjective clinical scores at final follow-up.
