Locking versus nonlocking superior plate fixations for displaced midshaft clavicle fractures: A prospective randomized trial comparing clinical and radiografic results.

Ninety patients with displaced, operative clavicle fractures were randomized to receive fixation utilizing a locking plate (n=45) or nonlocking plate (n=45). The outcomes of interest were complication rates, union rates and functional outcomes measured using the Constant score. There were no differences in overall complication rates between groups. The locking plate group had a significantly faster time to radiographic union and significantly lower rate of delayed union. No difference in Constant scores were found.
