Locked intramedullary fixation vs plating for displaced and shortened mid-shaft clavicle fractures: a randomized clinical trial
J Shoulder Elbow Surg. 2010 Sep;19(6):783-9. doi: 10.1016/j.jse.2010.05.00232 patients with short, displaced, midshaft clavicle fractures were randomized to treatment with either locked intramedullary fixation or plate fixation. Patients were assessed at a mean follow-up of 12.4 months. Results revealed that both treatments led to similar shoulder function, evident by the Constant and Oxford shoulder scores. Additionally, union was reached in all patients with no difference in complication rates.
