The wound healing effect of local leukocyte platelet-rich plasma after total hip arthroplasty: A randomized controlled trial.

Fifty-five patients scheduled for a total hip arthroplasty procedure were randomized to receive a single application of topical leukocyte-rich platelet rich plasma (n=31; 16 completed follow up) or control (n=24; 17 completed follow up) for wound healing. The primary outcome of interest was healing of the skin incision. Secondary outcomes of interest included transfusion, length of stay, pain, and wound infections. The time to wound healing, as well as the percentage of patients with healed wounds at 3 and 4 weeks post-operation, was significantly in favour of the leukocyte-rich platelet rich plasma group. Length of stay, pain, transfusion, or wound infection were similar between groups.
