Synergistic effect of LCI with ESWT on treating patients with mild to moderate CTS: a randomized controlled trial.

Forty patients with mild to moderate carpal tunnel syndrome were randomized to receive either radial extracorporeal shock wave therapy (R-ESWT) with a local corticosteroid injection (n=20) or sham-R-ESWT with local corticosteroid injection (n=20). Outcomes of interest included pain on a Visual Analog Scale (VAS) and Global System Score (GSS) at 1, 3, and 6 months, post-treatment. The need for surgery and the incidence of adverse events were also assessed after 6 months. GSS and VAS scores were significantly lower in the R-ESWT group at 3 and 6 months, compared to the sham-R-ESWT group. The need for surgery was also significantly lower in the R-ESWT group after 6 months.
