Periarticular Injection After Total Knee Arthroplasty Using Liposomal Bupivacaine vs a Modified Ranawat Suspension: A Prospective, Randomized Study

105 patients scheduled to undergo total knee arthroplasty were randomized to receive either liposomal bupivacaine or modified Ranawat suspension periarticular injection, for the purpose of determining if either injection treatment was associated with significantly improved postoperative pain, narcotic requirement and functional restoration/improvement. Results demonstrated comparable pain and clinical outcomes at all follow-up intervals up to 6 postoperative weeks, which suggests that both injection treatments were sufficient in postoperative management.
