Psoas Compartment Block vs Periarticular Local Anesthetic Infiltration for Pain Management After Anterior Total Hip Arthroplasty: A Prospective, Randomized Study

100 patients scheduled for total hip arthroplasty were randomized to postoperative analgesia which featured either a psoas compartment block (PCB) or local infiltration analgesia (LIA). Primarily, patients were assessed for pain scores and narcotic consumption over the first two days postoperatively. Pain scores at rest at 3 hours were significantly lower in the LIA group compared to the PCB group, though differences between groups on postoperative days 1 and 2 were not significantly different. Additionally, pain scores on movement and narcotic consumption did not significantly differ between groups on PODs 1 and 2.
