Pilot study of the impact that bilateral sacroiliac joint manipulation using a drop table technique has on gait parameters in asymptomatic individuals with a leg length inequality

21 asymptomatic student volunteers with leg length inequality (LLI) were randomized to receive either bilateral sacroiliac (SI) joint chiropractic manipulative therapy (CMT) or no CMT. This study aimed to pilot an experimental design using advanced motion analysis technology to determine effect of treatment on gait parameters and determine sample size for future studies. Advanced motion analysis technology was feasible in capturing gait parameters during a 90-second walking kinematic measurement. Results indicated no significant trends overall, although percent stance time improved from pre ipsilateral to post ipsilateral lower limb. Post-hoc sample size determination yielded 34 patients per group for a comparison of two groups.
