Medial knee osteoarthritis treated by insoles or braces: a randomized trial
Clin Orthop Relat Res. 2010 Jul;468(7):1926-3291 patients with knee osteoarthritis (OA) of the medial compartment were included in this study to compare the effects of lateral wedge foot orthoses and valgus knee braces on clinical and knee alignment outcomes. The results of this trial at 6 months indicated that both groups improved pain and function outcomes compared to baseline; however, there were no differences between groups. It was observed that neither group corrected the varus knee alignment of patients when measured in the frontal plane. Compliance and time using the intervention were greater in the insole group compared to the knee brace group.
