Laser Acupuncture on Wrist Pain and Bone Mineral Density in Osteoporotic Women: A Randomized Trial .
Effect of laser acupuncture on pain and density of bone in osteoporotic postmenopausal women: a randomized controlled trial.
Menopause. 2023 May 1;30(5):545-550.68 postmenopausal women with osteoporosis were randomized to receive 12 weeks of Vitamin D3 supplementation and calcium supplementation with 12 weeks of 3x/week laser acupuncture (n=34) or supplementation alone (n=34). The primary outcome of interest was the bone mineral density of the non-dominant arm. Secondary outcomes of interest included wrist pain measured on a Visual Analog Scale (VAS). Outcomes were assessed pre- and post-treatment. The results showed that adding laser acupuncture to supplementation significantly improved bone mineral density and reduced pain vs. supplementation alone. Future studies exploring adverse events and clinical outcomes over a longer follow-up are necessary.
