Vol. 10 Iss. 12 | June 2022 | Number 90 J Orthop Surg Res. 2022 01-May;():. 10.1186/s13018-022-03165-7Study Summary
One hundred and eighty-one patients undergoing long-segment lumbar spine surgery were randomized to receive wound closure using knotless barbed sutures (n=91) or conventional Vicryl suturing (n=90). The outcomes of interest included wound complications, 90-day readmission, operating and suture closure time, length of stay, and cost. Knotless barbed suturing was more expensive materially but resulted in a significantly lower rate of complication, and shorter operative and wound closure time.
