Dr. Negm touches on the efficacy of pulsed electromagnetic field and pulsed surface electrode treatments in knee OA.
Data from 7 randomized controlled trials from 1994 to 2011, assessing 456 patients with knee osteoarthritis (OA), were pooled to evaluate the efficacy of pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) and pulsed surface electrodes (PES) treatment methods. Pain, physical function, adverse events and quality of evidence were assessed. The results presented in this meta-analysis/ systematic review demonstrated that treatment using PEMF/PES resulted in improved assessed physical function but did not reduce pain.
