Effect of Kinesio Taping and balance exercises on postural control in amateur soccer players: A randomised control trial

Study findings suggest that kinesiotaping alone does not significantly improve balance. Meanwhile, balance exercise alone or combined with kinesiotaping may improve postural control over time in healthy amateur male soccer players. The differences in outcomes between groups were, however, not significantly different. This study was limited by the short followup, high drop out rate and inclusion of healthy patients only. Future studies on the topic are of interest.
Study Summary
Fifty-one healthy male amateur soccer players were randomized to receive 4 weeks of kinesiotaping plus balance exercises, placebo kinesiotaping plus balance exercises, or kinesiotaping only for the improvement of balance and postural control. The primary outcomes of interest included the Star Excursion Balance Test (SEBT), the Unipedal Stance Test (UST) and the Toe Touch Test (TTT). Follow up was performed at 2 and 4 weeks after the initiation of treatment. Results revealed no significant differences in all outcomes between all groups. The kinesiotaping plus balance exercise group and the placebo kinesiotaping plus balance exercise group did, however, display significant improvements over time in the SEBT and UST outcomes.
