Effects of Kinesio taping on lower limb biomechanical characteristics during the cutting maneuver in athletes after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction.

Eighteen patients with anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) were randomized to receive either Kinesio taping (KT; n=18), placebo taping (PT; n=18), or no taping (NT; n=18). The primary outcome of interest was the knee valgus angle during the landing phase of a 90° cutting maneuver. Secondary outcomes included other lower limb kinematic and kinetic variables such as peak knee flexion angle, hip and ankle angles, and joint moments. Outcomes were assessed during the landing phase of the maneuver. Overall, the results of the study revealed that KT significantly reduced the knee valgus angle compared to no taping, but there were no significant improvements in other kinematic or kinetic variables. These findings suggest that KT may help reduce the risk of secondary ACL injuries by decreasing the knee valgus angle during cutting maneuvers.
