The effectiveness of Kinesio Taping® after total knee replacement in early postoperative rehabilitation period. A randomized controlled trial
Eur J Phys Rehabil Med. 2014 Aug;50(4):363-71. Epub 2014 May 13.94 patients scheduled for primary total knee arthroplasty received a standardized rehabilitation regimen either with or without Kinesio Taping applications up to 4 weeks. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of Kinesio Taping with the Kinesio Tex Gold tape on postoperative pain, edema, and range of motion. Results indicated that during the later stages of rehabilitation (from postoperative day 16 to 28), patients in the Kinesio Taping group experienced less knee pain, less postoperative edema in the thigh, knee, and calf, and better knee extension (postoperative day 24-28) compared to the control group. Ankle circumference and active knee flexion were comparable between groups. Results from the earlier postoperative period were similar between groups.
