Topical Ketoprofen Versus Placebo in Treatment of Acute Ankle Sprain in the Emergency Department

100 patients with an ankle sprain presenting to the emergency department within 24 hours of injury were randomized to be administered either topical ketoprofen gel or a placebo gel. The purpose of this study was to compare pain reduction between groups within the first 30 minutes after application of the gel. Results demonstrated significantly greater pain reduction in the ketoprofen group compared to the placebo group at both 15 minutes and 30 minutes after administration.
