Influence of ketamine versus fentanyl on pain relief for pediatric orthopedic emergencies: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled studies
Medicine (Baltimore) . 2021 Oct 22;100(42):e27409.A meta-analysis of 5 randomized controlled trials and 528 patients was undertaken to evaluate the efficacy of ketamine compared to fentanyl for pediatric patients who had sustained orthopaedic emergencies. The outcomes of interest was pain relief, rescue analgesia use, nausea and vomiting and dizziness. There was no significant difference in pain relief at 15-20 minutes or at 30 minutes following medication delivery. Similarly, there was no difference in the use of rescue analgesia between groups. The ketamine group experienced higher rates of nausea and vomiting as well as dizziness.
