Comparison of ketamine-low-dose midazolam with midazolam-fentanyl for orthopedic emergencies: a double-blind randomized trial
Am J Emerg Med. 2013 Jan;31(1):108-13. doi: 10.1016/j.ajem.2012.06.012. Epub 2012 Aug 3161 patients entering the emergency department in need of urgent reduction after experiencing a traumatic event were randomised to take either midazolam-fentanyl or ketamine-low-dose midazolam for procedural sedation to compare the efficacy of these two drug combinations. The results for this study indicated that both drug combinations were effective for procedural sedation and reduced pain, but KM reduced the risk of hypoxia and may be the better choice for use in the emergency department.
