Chondroitin sulfate and/or glucosamine hydrochloride for Kashin-Beck disease: a cluster-randomized, placebo-controlled study

OE Journal. 2013;1(11):136 Osteoarthritis Cartilage. 2012 Jul;20(7):622-9. Epub 2012 Mar 30.251 patients with Kashin-Beck disease (KBD) were randomized to receive oral administration of either chondroitin sulfate, glucosamine hydrochloride, a combination of chondroitin sulfate and glucosamine hydrochloride, or a placebo. The results following 6 months of treatment indicate that the combined treatment of chondroitin sulfate and glucosamine hydrochlroide is more effective in providing KBD patients with reduced pain and stiffness, compared to placebo treatment.
