IV TXA 15mg/kg reduces blood loss and transfusion in fixation of trochanteric fracture .
Use of tranexamic acid in dynamic hip screw plate fixation for trochanteric fractures
J Orthop Surg (Hong Kong). 2016 Dec;24(3):379-38260 patients with a stable trochanteric fracture scheduled for internal fixation with a dynamic hip screw were randomized to pre-incision intravenous administration of a 15mg/kg dose of tranexamic acid or 0.9% normal saline. The purpose of this study was to compare intraoperative blood loss, postoperative blood loss, transfusion requirement and the incidence of complications between groups. Results demonstrated significantly lower intraoperative blood loss, postoperative blood loss up to 48 hours after surgery, and requirement of transfusion in the group administered tranexamic acid compared to saline. No cases of thromboembolic complications were recorded in either group.
