2017 ISAKOS Congress : How much should we inject of steroid injection for treatment of primary shoulder stiffness: a prospective randomized controlled trial with high- and low-dose steroid injection

147 patients with a diagnosis of shoulder stiffness were randomized to an intraarticular injection of either 20mg or 40mg triamcinolone acetonide. Patients were assessed over a 12-month follow-up for results regarding pain, shoulder range of motion, and functional scores. Subgroup analysis of diabetic patients from each group was also performed, assessing blood glucose, fructosamine, and HbA1c levels. Overall, no significant differences between groups in pain, shoulder range of motion, or functional scores were found. In diabetic patients, the 20mg group demonstrated significantly lower blood glucose levels at 6 weeks post-injection in comparison to the 40mg group.
