2017 ISAKOS Congress : Intra-articular platelet rich plasma and hyaluronic acid are effective in knee osteoarthritis: a comparative, randomized study

142 knees, in 84 patients, with moderate severity osteoarthritis were randomized to intraarticular injection of either platelet-rich plasma or hyaluronic acid. Patients were assessed over 12- and 24-week follow-up for results on the Knee Society Score and a visual analog scale for pain. While the HA group demonstrated better early improvement in scores, KSS scores were significantly higher and VAS pain scores were significantly lower in the PRP group compared to the HA group at 24 weeks.
