2017 ISAKOS Congress : Effects of femoral nerve block versus adductor canal nerve blockade with anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction: a prospective, randomized clinical trial

83 patients scheduled for anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction were randomized to receive either a femoral nerve block or an adductor canal block. Patients were assessed over the first 4 weeks after surgery for pain scores, morphine consumption, quadriceps activation deficit on electromyography, straight leg raise test, and ability to ambulate without assistive devices. Results on analgesic outcome demonstrated no significant difference differences between groups in postoperative pain scores and opioid consumption. Quadriceps activation deficit was lower in the ACB group compared to the FNB group.
