2015 10th Biennial ISAKOS Congress : A Prospective Randomized Comparitive Study of Early Outcome in Total Knee Arthroplasty With Subvastus Approach VS. Medial Parapatellar Approach

100 patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty (TKA) were randomized to either a subvastus approach or a standard medial parapatellar approach. The purpose of this study was to compare the efficacy of the subvastus approach to the conventional medial parapatellar approach in TKA. Follow-up was conducted at 24 weeks, 52 weeks, and 24 months postoperatively. Findings demonstrated that the subvastus approach and the medial parapatellar approaches led to comparable results with respect to pain and function.
