Does post-operative PRP injection increase healing rate after rotator cuff repair?
38 patients with rotator cuff tear were randomized to undergo arthroscopic rotator cuff repair either with or without platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections. The purpose of the study was to determine if PRP treatment accelerated recovery and increased stability of the repaired rotator cuff, at a minimum of 16 months post-surgery. Results showed that PRP application did not accelerate recovery as assessed by functional scores, pain, strength, or overall satisfaction. Additionally MRI results showed no difference in rate of healing or re-tear between groups.
