Wound irrigation does not affect health-related quality of life after open fractures: results of a randomized controlled trial
Bone Joint J. 2018 Jan;100-B(1):88-941860 patients with an open fracture and undergoing surgical fixation were randomized to one of two irrigation solutions (soap or saline) and one of three irrigation pressures (1-2 psi, 5-10psi, or >20psi). Patients were followed-up for health-related quality of life on the Sf-12 and the EQ-5D over 12 month follow-up. No significant differences between soap and saline, or between pressure groups were observed for either the SF-12 PCS, SF-12 MCS, or EQ-5D.
