The Targon Femoral Neck hip screw versus cannulated screws for internal fixation of intracapsular fractures of the hip: a randomised controlled trial

174 patients (65 years and older) with an intracapsular hip fracture (displaced or undisplaced) were randomized to fixation with either the Targon Femoral Neck hip screw or standard of care using cannulated screws. The purpose was to compare interventions with respect to risk of revision surgery at 1 year. Results indicated no significant difference between groups with respect to risk the of revision surgery at 1 year post-fracture. Moreover, there were no differences in the incidences of radiological nonunion, avascular necrosis, length of hospital stay, mortality, and incidence of adverse events.
