One hundred and nineteen patients with femoral hip fractures scheduled to undergo a hemiarthroplasty procedure were randomized to receive a multimodal analgesic program with the addition of local infiltration analgesia (n=59) or with a placebo injection (n=60). Outcomes of interest included pain scores on a Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) and opioid consumption, measured after surgery and on post-operative day one. Study results revealed similar NRS pain scores during mobilization and at rest, as well as no significant differences in opioid use between the two groups.
