TRIGEN INTERTAN Intramedullary Nail Versus Sliding Hip Screw: A Prospective, Randomized Multicenter Study on Pain, Function, and Complications in 684 Patients with an Intertrochanteric or Subtrochanteric Fracture and One Year of Follow-up
J Bone Joint Surg Am. 2013 Feb 6;95(3):200-208684 patients were randomized to compare clinical and functional outcomes of intra- and extramedullary implantation for trochanteric fractures over a 12 months period. Patients received either INTERTAN intramedullary nailing or extramedullary sliding hip screws, and were assessed on the basis of pain, function, fracture reduction, and complications experienced. The results indicated that functional mobility, hip function, patient satisfaction and quality of life assessments were comparable between groups.
