Interlaminar versus transforaminal epidural steroids for the treatment of subacute lumbar radicular pain: a randomized, blinded, prospective outcome study
Pain Physician. 2011 Nov-Dec;14(6):499-51142 patients with subacute lumbar radicular pain were randomized to receive either interlaminar (IL) epidural steroid injections (ESIs) or transforaminal (TF) ESIs to determine the short-term effects of each type of ESI. Following 3 assessments measured over approximately 3 months, results showed that TF ESIs initially provided greater subjective pain relief, but the objective outcomes were similar to those of IL ESIs.
