616 community-dwelling older adults (65 or older) at risk of falling were recruited in this study to determine the impact of a fall prevention program on reducing the number of falls over a one year period. Patients were allocated to undergo a 3-month multifactorial fall prevention program, or to receive health education brochures as control treatment. Primary outcome analysis indicated that the fall incidence was not reduced in the intervention group compared to the control group. However participants deemed at a marked risk of fall did experience a functional benefit from the program.
