Explore (NY). 2026 01-Feb;():. 10.1016/j.explore.2026.103341Study Summary
129 patients with knee osteoarthritis were randomized to receive either oral resveratrol 500 mg daily or placebo for 18 weeks. The outcomes of interest were postural balance performance, the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Arthritis Index (WOMAC) score, pain severity, knee flexion range of motion (ROM), gait speed, handgrip strength (HGS), and plasma biomarkers including silent information regulator 1 (SIRT1) and C-reactive protein (CRP). Outcomes were assessed at baseline and after 18 weeks of treatment. Overall, the results of the study revealed that resveratrol significantly improved balance, gait speed, ROM, HGS, pain during walking, and WOMAC scores compared with baseline, while placebo produced no meaningful changes. Resveratrol also increased plasma SIRT1 levels and reduced CRP concentrations. These findings suggest that resveratrol may improve both osteoarthritis symptoms and postural stability.
