Randomized Controlled Trial of Adding Telephone Follow-Up to an Occupational Rehabilitation Program to Increase Work Participation

213 individuals, with a musculoskeletal complaint, chronic pain disorder, chronic fatigue, or common mental disorder, on medical benefits for a minimum of 8 weeks were included in this trial to determine if the addition of a booster telephone follow-up to an occupational rehabilitation program improved return to work. Return to work was defined as participation in competitive work for > or = 1 day per week on average over 8 weeks. The results of this study indicated that the addition of a booster follow-up call significantly increased the odds of participants returning to work at 1 year.
