Improved outcomes in AO type B and C distal radius fractures with volar plating .
Outcomes and complications of fractures of distal radius (AO type B and C): volar plating versus nonoperative treatment
J Orthop Sci. 2014 Jul;19(4):537-4464 patients with an AO type B or C fracture of the distal radius were randomized to either nonoperative treatment of surgical treatment with a volar locking plate. Functional and radiological follow-up was performed for 2 years after injury. The results obtained indicated significantly better range of motion, radiological alignment, and functional outcome with volar plating. Articular incongruity and development of osteoarthritis were more frequent in patients who had been treated nonoperatively.
