Probiotic supplements and bone health in postmenopausal women: a meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials
OrthoEvidence Journal (OE Journal) - ACE Report
OE Journal. 2021;9(10):12 BMJ Open. 2021 Mar 2;11(3): e041393.研究概要
Five randomized controlled trials with a total of 497 postmenopausal women with osteoporosis included in this meta-analysis comparing probiotic supplementation (n=247) or placebo (n=250). Outcomes of interest included bone mineral density (BMD) (lumbar spine and hip) and bone turnover markers (i.e., Collagen type 1 cross-linked C-telopeptide [CTX], bone-specific alkaline phosphatase [BALP], osteoprotegerin [OPG], osteocalcin [OC] and tumour necrosis factor [TNF]). Pooled results revealed that only BMD lumbar spine was significantly favored in the probiotics group vs placebo (p<0.05). Moreover, out of all the bone turnover markers, only CTX was significantly reduced in the probiotics group vs placebo (p<0.05) whereas all other markers were not significantly different.
