Clavicle hook plate versus distal clavicle locking plate for Neer type II distal clavicle fractures

Nine randomized controlled trials were included in this meta-analysis comparing distal clavicular locking plates and clavicular hook plates for the treatment of Neer type II distal clavicular fractures. The primary outcome of interest was the Constant-Murley score. Secondary outcomes of interest included the incidence of shoulder pain, the incidence of restricted shoulder abduction, the incidence of delayed union and the incidence of acromion impingement syndrome. Results revealed significantly favourable Constant-Murley scores at both 3 and 6 months post-operation in favour of the distal clavicular locking plate group. Moreover, the risk of shoulder pain and risk of restricted shoulder abduction movement was significantly lower in the distal clavicular locking plate group.
