Immediate Effects on Pressure Pain Threshold Following a Single Cervical Spine Manipulation in Healthy Subjects
J Orthop Sports Phys Ther. 2007 Jun;37(6):325-915 healthy subjects participated in three sessions which involved randomly receiving either the intervention, the placebo or the control, in order to examine the immediate hypoalgesic effects on pressure pain threshold (PPT) at the lateral epicondyle of the elbow. The intervention was a single cervical high-velocity low-amplitude (HVLA) thrust manipulation, the placebo was a sham manipulation and the control intervention involved no manual contact by the therapist. Results demonstrated that HVLA thrust manipulation resulted in an immediate increase in PPT levels in both patient elbows.
