Immediate effects of Kinesio taping on pain, proprioception, and posture in round shoulder individuals with subacromial impingement syndrome: A randomized, double-blinded controlled trial.

One hundred fourteen patients with round shoulder posture (RSP) and subacromial impingement syndrome (SIS) were randomized to receive either Kinesio taping (KT) (n=57) or a sham taping procedure (n=57). The primary outcome of interest was pain intensity, assessed using a Visual Analog Scale (VAS). Secondary outcomes included proprioception (measured via an inclinometer) and posture (evaluated using the New York Posture Rating Chart, NYPRC). Outcomes were assessed immediately before and after KT application. Overall, the study revealed that KT significantly reduced pain (P = .002), improved proprioception in abduction (P = .023), and enhanced posture (P = .040) compared to the sham taping. However, there was no significant effect on proprioception in flexion (P > .05). These findings suggest that KT may be an effective short-term intervention for pain relief and postural improvement in individuals with RSP and SIS.
