The effects of different weight-bearing regimes on press-fit cup stability: a randomised study with five years of follow-up using radiostereometry

30 adult patients with unilateral osteoarthritis of the hip, who received a press fit cup, were randomized to full weight bearing or partial weight bearing for three months. The results from five year follow-up indicated that there were no significant differences between the two groups in regards to micromotion, as assessed with radiostereometry. Importantly, no adverse effects were found at a 5 year follow up in the group that received immediate weight bearing.
