Total hip arthroplasty using imageless computer-assisted hip navigation: a prospective randomized study
J Arthroplasty. 2014 Apr;29(4):786-91. doi: 10.1016/j.arth.2013.08.020. Epub 2013 Nov 26130 patients scheduled for total hip arthroplasty (THA) were randomized to undergo the procedure using either a computer-assisted imageless navigation system or a freehand technique. The purpose of this study was to compare the angles of inclination and anteversion of the acetabular cup, along with functional outcomes. Results at a mean follow-up of 1.5 years indicated that the mean deviation from the safe zone and the number of outliers were significantly lower in the computer-assisted navigation group compared to the conventional group, for both angles of inclination and anteversion. There were no significant differences between groups with respect to functional outcomes or the incidence of complications.
