Effect of Hypertonic Saline in Intra-Articular Hydraulic Distension for Adhesive Capsulitis

81 patients diagnosed with adhesive capsulitis of the shoulder were randomized to receive either hypertonic saline solution or regular saline in capsule-preserving intra-articular hydraulic distension. The purpose of the study was to determine the functional and pain and disability effects of hypertonic saline 2 weeks after surgery. Results indicated significant improvements in patient reported outcome score and shoulder passive range of motion, with the hypertonic saline group showing greater improvements as compared to the normal saline treatment group.
