A randomized trial of hydroxyapatite-coated femoral stems in total hip arthroplasty: A 13-year follow-up

To compare the functional and clinical benefits of hyroxyapatite coating stem, 61 hips scheduled to undergo total hip arthroplasty (THA) received either a femoral stem with hydroxyapatite coating or a non-coated stem. Assessment at an average of 13 year follow-up indicated that there were no significant differences in the number of revision surgeries required. Both types of femoral stems demonstrated 100% survivorship. There were also no differences in clinical or radiographic outcomes between the two stem types.
