Improved Comfortability and Satisfaction of Hybrid-mesh Casts in the Conservative Management of Pediatric Supracondylar Humeral Fractures: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

Seventy-nine pediatric patients with stable supracondylar humeral fractures were randomized to receive either a hybrid-mesh (HM) cast (n=39) or a fiberglass cast (n=38) for three weeks. The primary outcome was the loss of reduction. Secondary outcomes included skin rash incidence, cast weight, time for cast application and removal, and self-reported comfort and satisfaction levels. Overall, the study revealed that while HM casts took longer to remove, they were significantly lighter and provided greater comfort and satisfaction than fiberglass casts. These findings suggest that HM casts offer a comfortable and satisfactory alternative for pediatric fracture management without affecting fracture stability.
