Clinical effects of sodium hyaluronate combined with platelet-rich plasma injection on rotator cuff injury in arthroscopic repair.
Vol. 12 Iss. 15 | August 2024 | Number 30 Regen Ther . 2023 Jun 30:24:161-166.Study Summary
92 patients undergoing shoulder arthroscopy repair for rotator cuff tears were randomized to receive either hyaluronic acid plus platelet-rich plasma (HA + PRP; n=46) or hyaluronic acid alone (HA; n=46). Outcomes of interest included pain on a Visual Analog Scale (VAS), Constant-Murley Score (CMS), the University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA) shoulder score, the American Shoulder & Elbow Surgeons (ASES) score, range of motion, Rotator Cuff-Quality of Life (RC-QoL), and the incidence of adverse events. Outcomes were assessed at 3 and 6 months. Both groups showed significant improvements in VAS pain, shoulder joint function, range of motion, and quality of life post-surgery, with significantly better outcomes in the HA+PRP group. Despite these differences, the incidence of complications between the two groups was similar, indicating comparable safety profiles.
