Clinical efficacy of intra-articular injections in knee osteoarthritis: a prospective randomized study comparing hyaluronic acid and betamethasone

OE Journal. 2016;4(4):16 Open Access Rheumatology: Research and Reviews 2015:7 9–18200 patients with knee osteoarthritis were randomized to an intra-articular injection protocol of either hyaluronic acid (HA) or betamethasone (BM), and followed up for a year. The purpose of this study was to compare clinical outcome measures between HA and BM injections. With the exception of global pain assessment at 3 months, which demonstrated significantly lower pain in the BM group compared to HA group, all differences in outcome measures favoured the HA group compared to the BM group.
