80 patients with partial or full-thickness rotator cuff tears were randomized to receive arthroscopic rotator cuff repair either with or without an injection of hyaluronate/carboxymethylated cellulose to evaluate the effects of this injection on pain, function and healing. Results indicated that there were no significant differences between groups in Visual Analog Scale (VAS) pain, range of motion, constant scores, American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) scores, or rates of tendon healing at any time point throughout the study (up to 12 months).
