Home-visit program superior to out-patient visit program following total knee replacement .
A home visit program versus a non-home visit program in total knee replacement patients: a randomized controlled trial
J Orthop Surg Res. 2019 Nov 29;14(1):405.50 patients receiving a total knee replacement were randomized to receive a home-visit program or an out-patient visit program for post-operative patient assessment by the lead surgeon. Primary outcomes of interest included pain on a Visual Analog Scale (VAS), knee range of motion, the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities (WOMAC) Osteoarthritis Index, Knee and Function Scores, patient satisfaction and the time to independent gait. Follow up was performed at 2 and 6 weeks post-operation. At 6 weeks post-operation, all outcomes were significantly in favour of the home-visit group compared to the out-patient visit group.
