Clinic-based training in comparison to home-based training after first-time lumbar disc surgery: A randomised controlled trial

OE Journal. 2013;1(5):73 Eur Spine J. 2009 Mar;18(3):398-409. Epub 2008 Nov 2059 patients without comorbidities, undergoing their first lumbar disc surgical procedure, were randomized to receive either clinic based therapy with a behavioral component or a home-based exercise therapy. The results from this study indicated no differences at 3 months; however, at 1 year post-operative follow-up, the back pain and quality of life was significantly lower in the home based program. It should be noted that the activity levels at 1 year follow-up were greater in the clinic based group.
