Holland nail results in quicker and more superior mobilization compared to DHS .
A prospective trial comparing the Holland nail with the dynamic hip screw in the treatment of intertrochanteric fractures of the hip
J Bone Joint Surg Br. 2008 Aug;90(8):1073-8190 patients with extracapsular intertrochanteric femoral neck fractures were randomized to receive treatment with the long intramedullary holland nail or the dynamic hip screw (DHS). The 1 year results of the study indicated that the Holland group demonstrated a significantly shorter time to mobilisation experienced no revisions; however, this group also indicated a higher mean radiation time. In addition, it was noted that more patients in the DHS group needed post-operative blood transfusion.
